Optimized for UV Coated Printing.
Templates That Respect the Finish
UV coating amplifies your design. Colors appear deeper. Contrasts sharpen. Photographic images gain a clarity that standard printing cannot match. But UV coating also amplifies every flaw — a slightly soft image, a misaligned bleed, or an incorrectly prepared spot UV mask becomes more visible under that reflective surface.
Our templates are engineered specifically for UV coated production. Every file includes the correct document dimensions, 0.125-inch bleed, CMYK color profile optimized for UV coating adhesion, and clearly marked safety margins. For spot UV products, our templates include a dedicated mask layer that shows exactly where the UV coating will be applied — so you can design the tactile contrast as part of your creative process, not as an afterthought.
Starting with our template means your file is production-ready from the first upload. No corrections. No delays. No compromises to the finish quality.
Template Library
We provide templates for every UV coated product in our catalog. Each is available in Adobe Illustrator (.ai), Photoshop (.psd), InDesign (.indd), and PDF formats.
Flyer templates — 4.25 x 5.5, 5.5 x 8.5, and 8.5 x 11 inch formats. Postcard templates — 4x6, 4.25x5.5, 5x7, and 6x9. Business card templates — standard 3.5 x 2 inch with optional spot UV mask layer. Rack card and door hanger templates with die cut guides.
Every template includes labeled layers: print layer (your CMYK artwork), bleed guide, trim line, safety margin, and — for spot UV products — a separate UV mask layer. The mask layer is set to a spot color channel so it does not print with your artwork but maps precisely to the UV coating application. This is the layer our production team uses to align the coating to your design.
Design Principles for UV Coated Printing
Designing for UV coating requires attention to a few details that do not apply to standard printing:
Resolution must be 300 DPI minimum. UV coating creates a magnifying effect on surface detail — anything below 300 DPI will appear noticeably soft. Use rich, saturated CMYK values. UV coating intensifies color, so bold palettes produce striking results. Avoid large areas of solid light color adjacent to spot UV elements — the coating boundary is most visible against light backgrounds.
For spot UV designs, the most impactful technique is matte lamination as the base with selective high-gloss UV applied to specific elements — a logo, a headline, a photographic focal point. The tactile and visual contrast between matte and gloss surfaces creates a multi-sensory experience that flat printing cannot replicate.
When exporting, ensure your UV mask layer is on its own layer or spot color channel, separate from the print artwork. Our templates have this already configured — just design within the structure provided and export.
From Template to Production
Download the template for your product and size. Design your artwork on the print layer, keeping critical elements inside the safety margin and extending backgrounds to the bleed edge. If using spot UV, define the coating areas on the mask layer.
Export as a high-resolution PDF at 300 DPI with fonts embedded. For spot UV orders, confirm that the mask layer exports as a separate element — our templates handle this automatically when you use the save presets included.
Upload through our ordering system and our prepress specialists verify the file, including mask alignment for spot UV orders. If everything checks out — and with our templates, it typically does on the first pass — your order moves directly into production.
